TMN School of performance
The Momentary Now School of Performance is a theoretical–practical course proposed by Marcella Vanzo at ZONA K to explore performance in all its dimensions. It is a course grounded in action and reflection on performance, spanning visual arts, poetry, and theater, alongside anthropology, psychology, and sociology.
I worked as an assistant to the artist Marcella Vanzo and co-led the professional course for adults on performative practices, The Momentary Now School of Performance.
Performance holds a special place in my life; I constantly update my practice by participating in artistic residencies across Italy and Europe.
We invited students to explore various languages connected to action and gesture, the body as a medium, the voice, the relationship with others and space, with objects, and with the professional world. Students worked individually and in groups, focusing on:
– Doing: practical exercises, physical work, readings, and analysis of artworks
– Watching: exhibitions, theater performances, performance art, videos, and meetings with external artists and curators
– Transmitting: learning how to cultivate and share their own experiences
“Performance art is the art of being present”
Performative art is the art of relationship, and it is made through the body. It is a type of participatory art that reaches the audience immediately through experience. The performer works by listening deeply to their body, attuning to both their internal and external worlds. They train to remain fully in the here and now, because it is precisely in this free space that spontaneous creative acts arise and an authentic, unmasked form of connection with others is possible.
