Performance art Workshop
Single session or intensive course on performance art and the practice of being fully present with awareness.
Performance art workshop at the Royal Academy of Arts in collaboration with the Marina Abramović Institute, London, 2023
Beyond the performative dimension, isn’t it important to learn to be present and to cultivate relationships with others?
We are used to doing many things at once: walking, checking our phones, working, talking, watching TV, and listening to the radio. In this space, however, we will do one thing at a time, slowly. Young people especially are accustomed to constant overstimulation, which can lead to unconscious fatigue as well as a sense of detachment from others.
I have worked in schools, cultural spaces, personal growth retreats, and artist training programs.
In schools, I have noticed great enthusiasm, especially a strong desire to bring these practices to young people who often struggle to inhabit the present and to connect with their bodies rather than just their minds.
GOAL:
I feel a strong desire to bring these practices to both adults and young people with the aim of fostering reconnection with themselves and each other in the present moment, as well as gently exploring their often-silenced inner world. Another objective is to train the intuitive side, which is frequently overshadowed by the rational, controlling part.
What I Offer: A single session on performance or an intensive multi-session course.
Target Audience: Primarily aimed at young people and adults (in schools or personal growth programs) and artists (as professional training).
Contexts: Suitable for schools, festivals, wellness retreats, and personal growth events.
Duration: 2 hours (single session) or 5 days (intensive course).
Practical Proposal – Single Session:
Introduction through Play: We start by introducing ourselves through playful activities, easing into the work space with greater comfort and openness.
Meditative and Breathwork Practices: Building on the well-known benefits of meditation, I use meditation techniques to create an energetic and focused field before starting the session. Activating breathing exercises may also be used to release tension and prepare the body.
Non-Rational Action Exercises: Drawing from my artistic training, participants explore actions that bypass rational control, allowing unfiltered thought and spontaneous creativity to emerge.
Body Practices from Performance Art Training: Techniques learned from Abramović and other reference artists in performance art, as well as personal experimental methods, are applied to deepen bodily awareness and presence.
Closing Reflection: The session concludes with sharing sensations and reflections from the experience, as well as messages that emerged during the initial writing or warm-up exercises.
The goal:
The goal is to enhance concentration, self-centering, and presence—both toward oneself and in relation to others. For adolescents, this practice supports their ability to inhabit the present and reconnect with their bodies rather than remaining solely in the mind. For artists, it offers a path to deeper bodily and present awareness, fostering the ability to “be” like a blank page. The techniques learned become a personal toolkit that participants can reuse in their artistic practice or daily life.

“We look at each other too little; intimacy is a space that can be frightening but can also open new horizons of connection.”
“I realized that I’m no longer used to looking people in the eye; we think so fast that our thoughts just pile up on each other”
