We are an unexplored multitude, waiting only to be seen.

Psychosomatic Photography – Being Seen

I conduct psychosomatic photography sessions in which, through the medium of photography, I offer group and individual pathways to access the unexplored and unexpressed parts of the self, with the goal of liberating them and bringing them to light.

The core of my work lies in the gaze and its therapeutic potential.

I have explored this foundation in my thesis, “Principles of Psychosomatic Photography: Constructing a Method. The Therapeutic Power of the Camera’s Gaze in Relation to the Performative Act.”

Being seen is therapeutic, and the image can act as a mirror in which to observe and recognize oneself. The camera functions as a metaphorical device of relationship.

Psychosomatic photography is an artistic tool designed to explore and stimulate the creative self and expand our perception. It helps us imagine and perceive ourselves as multiple.

Theory overview: the origin of the method

My artistic background is rooted in visual art and body performance.

The intersection of these two languages has generated the core of my artistic and therapeutic research.

This is how:

ESSERE VISTA (Being Seen) was born.

I chose to make ART a tool for therapy and well-being, for everyone.

I support those who come to me through a process of art-based therapy.

Drama therapy deals with personal growth and uses different artistic tools. Naturally, I have infused drama therapy with the language of imagery, creating an approach that includes video, photography, and performance.

Starting from Lacan’s mirror stage theory and Winnicott’s reflections on mirroring, I identified photography as a powerful tool for relationship and personal discovery.

The gaze is foundational to identity, and my thesis is based on this principle:

BEING SEEN IS THERAPEUTIC, AND SEEING ONESELF IS REVOLUTIONARY.

We can say that, in order to exist and define ourselves as individuals, we need to be mirrored by others.

From the Other, I receive the essential confirmation of my existence. It is precisely through the gaze that I come to know myself.

What I personally believe is that we can rediscover ourselves through the gaze even in adulthood.

“It is in the caress—of the hand and of the gaze—that the origin of our emotional and affective life is formed.”

In our time, we live in a culture of images, and our way of communicating is increasingly visual.

We hold in our hands a powerful tool that allows us to look inward — but no one has taught us how to use it.

An education in imagery is essential for understanding both the world and the self.

Psychosomatic photography combines body awareness and expression with the eye of the camera, which activates a relational dynamic that supports inner observation.

It is an artistic tool to explore one’s inner life, useful for activating transformation and amplifying personal perception.

The camera offers a mirror to look into, reflecting the inner world and capturing the body’s transformative process — along with the messages and information it holds and wants to express.

We will work actively with the traces that emerge along the path.

Psychosomatic photography captures the traces of unconscious processes and calls for a dialogue.

“We all have a multifaceted personality: the more masks the self rediscovers, the more possibilities it has to project itself into the world.”

Effects and benefits.

Why

It is important for everyone to have a vibrant creative self. Being able to access your own creative source is essential to living your life with awareness and creativity. Knowing yourself and experiencing the world through an artistic lens changes your perception of the self and allows you to connect with your inner resources and abilities.

In my individual and group paths, I aim to offer art—in all its diverse forms that I work with—as a means to nurture and awaken your creative self.

Art becomes a mirror through which to observe, discover, and perhaps embrace yourself with love.

Gaze and presence are the guiding principles around which I structure all my paths.

In this sense, I use visual art and body performance to accompany you on this journey of personal discovery, exploring various aspects and themes: from the self, to the relationship with oneself, to relationships with others.
